I read this book a while back, so bear with me as I try to remember the good and the bad.
Sophia Mercer–A Demon-girl who attends Hecate Hall (see book 1) a school for Prodigium (faeries, vampires, shifters, witches, warlocks, and werewolves) She takes an offer to spend a summer with her father, who she barely knows, and a few friends, namely Jenna, her vampire roommate, and Cal, her betrothed. This is where the story takes place–the Prodigium Council Headquarters. Sophie’s father has lived here all his life. He intends to persuade Sophie out of the Removal, a ritual that removes magic, thus making her a normal human. She is in love with a secret member of the “Eye”, Archer.
James Atherton (Sophie’s Dad)–James is the head of the Prodigium Council. He also is a demon, he and Sophie being the only ones. He has incredible power because of his demon blood. Sophie meets her father for the first time in this book.
Jenna–Sophie’s pink-loving vampire friend. She comes to England with Sophie and Cal.
Cal–Alexander Callahan. He is betrothed to Sophie with James’ permission. He is a powerful white warlock, which means he heals injuries well. He works as the groundskeeper at Hecate Hall. He is invited to England by Sophie’s dad, for the chance to grow closer to her. Sophie has a little crush on him, but not nearly as strong as her’s on Archer.
Archer–A discovered member of The Eye (L’Occhio di Dio) that was a student at Hecate Hall. He was syping on the Prodigium. Sophie loves Archer, but she knows that she can’t be with him because he is her worst enemy. She thought she’d never see him again after the kiss in the cellar in Hex Hall (book 1), but they meet up again in this book.
L’Occhio di Dio–The Eye. An organization with the main goal of killing all Prodigium. Archer is a special member because he is both a Prodigium and an Eye. A war is approaching between the Eyes and the Prodigium.
Nick and Daisy–Two other demons that Sophie meets at the Council Headquarters. Someone recently created these demons. They have no recollection of their life before.
Elodie–Elodie is now a ghost, but instead of haunting Hecate Hall, she haunts Sophie. Elodie and Sophie can communicate because of necromancy. Ghosts aren’t supposed to be able to respond to the living.
I loved this book. It was wonderful, and I can’t wait for the next one, Spellbound. This author is very good for having a blend of traits in her writing. She can have romance, humour, and action in the same book, almost on top of each other. I love that. I am so on Team Soal! (Sophie and Cal!) They make such an adorable couple! (AND they were meant to be together!!!) I recommend this book to anyone who has read Hex Hall. 🙂
