The Forest of Hands and Teeth By Carrie Ryan
Isn’t that such a great cover?!

In Mary’s world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death? Summary by Goodreads.

Mary-A girl who dreams of the ocean and times before the Return (when the Unconsecrated came). She loses both parents to the infection and has only her brother left. She is of marrying age in her village, where marriage isn’t about love but about commitment and children. She looks for answers to her many questions.

Harry-Mary’s betrothed. He and his brother, Travis, have always loved Mary.

Travis-Mary’s true love. After he broke his leg, she “prayed” over him day and night. She really was whispering stories of times before the Return in his ear. Her “praying” caused her to fall in love with him. He is betrothed to Cass, Mary’s best friend.

Cass-Mary’s best friend. She would listen to Mary’s stories all day long, even when she despised them and her parents would punish her for it. She smells like sunbeams and is usually very happy.

Jed-Mary’s brother. He has his own wife, Beth. He is a Guardian, part of a group that protects the fences around their village from the Unconsecrated.

Sister Tabitha-The head of the Sisterhood, the governing force of the village. When her parents Turned, Mary joins the Sisterhood. Mary finds that Sister Tabitha and the Sisterhood keep many secrets, from the general population.

This book takes place after the Apocalypse. The world is overrun with zombies, or Unconsecrated. The few people still living are caged with their own cities, for protection from the zombies. Everything that is done within those cities is about survival.

The book was excellent, well worth my time. The characters weren’t as detailed as in some other books, but they did the job. I think there could have been moments for more realistic actions to shine through. The whole world and the plot-line of this book was glorious! Carrie Ryan really creates a vivid world, so realistic. I love it, but I still don’t want to live in it… I am really looking forward to Dead-Tossed Waves, book two! I suggest this to hard-core girls who like a mix of action and romance.

Sorry I’m late… but here’s another four books I look forward to reading! The GoodReads summaries are linked to the book titles, for your convenience and reading pleasure.

A Great and Terrible Beauty By Libba Bray

A Great and Terrible Beauty has been recommended to me numerous times. I’m excited to read this book (as always!) but I don’t know when I will have time to! I’m so busy at the moment…*looks at date, says “Oh, crap, I was supposed to do that yesterday!* The story sounds interesting.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

The Lovely Bones sounds like an excellent book. People have talked about it, off-handedly, saying how good it was. I look forward to enjoying it, though I don’t know when! When I do, the review will be on here soon!

The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon

The Speed of Dark has been recommended to me by my friend, Jon. The protagonist is autistic, if I remember right. It’s Sci-fi, so I’m looking forward to reading it!

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Divergent has been talked about a lot, so I want to read it to find out what everyone is talking about. Looking forward to it, like every other book on my giant to-read list! Just another series of books I’d like to read and review!

Today I invite you to recommend books and discuss books you have had recommended to you.

Today I am starting what, I hope, is a weekly post about books I want to read. I invite you to discuss what you are currently reading or plan to read. I will post four books that I want to read, with a link to their synopsis on Goodreads, for your use.

The City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare (The Mortal Instruments #4)

The City of Fallen Angels! Presumably a great book, considering all the other before it that were excellent! I totally love Cassandra Clare! It’s mainly paranormal action/romance. I love it! Read the rest of this entry →

The Cover of The Book Thief

It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.
